About Me

Weiyi Chen (B. 1997, Chongqing, China) is a London-based textile artist with a background in fashion design, She graduated from Chelsea College of Arts with a Master’s degree in Textile Design in 2023. Chen’s work explores the emotional and cultural connections between natural materials, personal identity, and human experiences. Centered on natural dye and machine knitting, she integrates diverse textile techniques, including Chinese intangible cultural heritage techniques, with personal narratives to examine themes of heritage, memory, and the complexities of human relationships.

In addition to her individual practice, Chen is also the co-founder of  “TearSlaly”, an interdisciplinary art collective established with photography artist Tao Xinyue. “TearSlaly” merges photography and textiles as core mediums for contemporary artistic exploration and collaborative creation. Through traditional photography, textile arts, and natural dyeing techniques, the collective seeks to foster meaningful connections between creators and participants across different disciplines, using nature as a medium to cultivate authentic interactions.
